About Us

Bradford Airedale Athletic Club has a rich heritage that stretches back to 1880, when it was originally founded as Airedale Harriers. In its early years, the club trained in local schools, community halls, and small meeting spaces, reflecting the strong community spirit that continues to define the club today. By 1931, the club established its long-term home at Horsfall Stadium, a historic venue in Bradford that has hosted generations of athletes and remains the heart of the club’s activities.

Throughout its history, Bradford Airedale AC has evolved through mergers and partnerships, including a significant union with Spen Valley AC in the 1960s and the formation of the Airedale Athletics Partnership in 2007. These developments ensured the club’s continued growth and stability, enabling it to offer athletics opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

The club prides itself on fostering inclusion, community, and development. Its mission is to unlock athletic potential within the Bradford area, offering pathways for everyone from beginners taking their first steps in road or trail running, to juniors exploring track and field, and experienced athletes preparing for competitive events at regional and national levels. Commitment, passion, and teamwork define success at Bradford Airedale AC, more than age or background.

Over the years, the club has built a strong reputation in competition. In the 1930s, its women’s cross-country team achieved national recognition, a landmark moment in the club’s history. Today, members compete across the North of England Track and Field League, the West Yorkshire Cross Country League, and the PECO Cross Country League, while also participating in internal championships and local events. The club offers structured coaching in sprints, jumps, throws, and endurance disciplines, complemented by social and recreational running sessions.

Training takes place throughout the week at Horsfall Stadium, with sessions designed to accommodate all levels of ability. Juniors benefit from age-appropriate coaching, while adult athletes receive guidance tailored to their personal goals. The club’s focus on consistent training, supportive coaching, and a welcoming community ensures that every member has the opportunity to reach their potential.

Bradford Airedale AC is more than just a sports club; it is a living piece of Bradford’s athletic history. From its founding in the 19th century to its present-day programmes that include Funetics for younger participants, the club continues to celebrate its heritage while embracing innovation. Joining Bradford Airedale AC means becoming part of a tradition of athletic excellence, community engagement, and personal development, where every athlete can write their own chapter in the club’s ongoing story.
